La Selva Click on the images below to see an enlargementAround La Selva Lodge there are many excursion trails through the jungle. The common daily footwear on excursion was gum-boots (rubber boots, supplied by the lodge). This allows for the fact that, as the name implies, rainforests have a lot of wet areas underfoot. Closer to the lodge the trails feature board-walks for easy all-year access. Our daily routines made the most of this wonderful opportunity to experience the jungle. Every day we were up by 6am or earlier, with a full breakfast at 6.30-7.00am. Then we were off on an excursion. By mid-day we were usually back at the lodge and ready to enjoy a delicious hot meal. It was free time until 2-2.30pm, possibly for a siesta. For the two of us, it was usually time to save image files onto data storage, to clean the photo gear, and to prepare the day pack for the afternoon's excursion. It was dark by 6.30pm, so we were back at the lodge well in time for a review of the day, a preview of the next day's programme, a cool beer from the bar, and a pre-dinner shower and clean-up. Dinner by candle-light was always announced by the gong at 7pm. Every night a quite different 3-course meal of great food! After dinner there was time to socialise (with Diego always joining in), to write up your journal, and on a couple of nights to paddle on the lake looking caimans. By 9.30 guests were already heading to bed (before the generator cut off electricity, which cut off water as well).
